Restored version of the animated film treatment by Peter Rhodes of the H.P. Lovecraft story. Circa 1923/24.
There is a lot of good in this. I am particularly fond of Rhodes' conceptualization of Yog-Sothoth. The tentacled thrashing of Shub-Niggurath is also worthy of note. Azathoth as kaleidoscopic ever-shifting hideousness is fantastic. Something the eye cannot capture as it constantly shifts forms. Something the mind cannot entirely grasp.
